Course Withdrawal Process

Withdrawal From A Course -- points to remember

  • Prior to the last three weeks of classes, students may request withdrawal without grade penalty (W) from a course with the permission of the instructor and their advisor.
  • Students may accumulate A MAXIMUM OF TWO W'S PER ACADEMIC CAREER.
  • A grade of "W" will appear as part of the transcript but will not be figured in the grade point average.
  • Students receiving a grade of "W" are considered financially liable for that course. The total number of registered credits for the semester is not decreased.
  • A "W" may make students ineligible for NY State grants or participation in NCAA athletics, if they are not enrolled in at least 12 credits without the "W" course. 如果你是 unsure if you fall into this category you should meet with a representative from Financial 援助 or the coach of your team.
  • Students studying under a student visa must obtain approval from the International Student Advisor in Student Academic Services (SAS) and fall within International Studies guidelines as a full-time student.
  • Students requesting a withdrawal should not stop attending class until official action 已经被占用了.
  • Exceptions to the two W rule (and deadline) are reviewed on a case-by-case basis by the Committee on Academic Standing (CAS) and are granted only for extraordinary circumstances beyond the control of the student, e.g. severe medical problems. 文档是 required for such petitions.
  • You may find printable versions of the withdrawal forms on the 注册的 在线表单 页面.
  • For information and help considering if a withdrawal is the appropriate decision for you, please view the Office of Academic Advising's Course Withdrawal Considerations 网页.
